Hollywood's biggest personalities have urged people in Los Angeles and others to cast ballots in the weeks and even months before the 2022 elections. This year's elections have seen many in the industry spending time on the ground and on social media highlighting important issues on the ballot at the national, state, and local levels: Everything from abortion access and climate change to voting rights and more. This election has been frequently described as one of the most significant midterms in recent history. Hollywood's politically active celebrities are working with groups and nonprofits that promote voting as a result, and in some cases, they are even endorsing candidates themselves. In this position paper, I will be discussing some of the major celebrities that influenced people to vote for the midterm election.
Rocking to vote
You should be aware of how quick and easy it is to register to vote, according to Dwayne Johnson. He claims that, on average, registering only takes 94 seconds, so his YouTube crew performed a song about how simple it really is.
Paul Rudd
Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd reenacted one of his most iconic performances as part of a fundraising initiative for U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman, who was engaged in a high-profile contest against former TV personality Mehmet Oz. The two performed out sequences from the 2009 film I Love You, Man in a Zoom.
I wrote a letter to Paul Rudd last year (on very fancy letterhead) formally asking him to re-enact scenes from "I Love You, Man" with me.
Joss Whedon may have left the Marvel universe, but that didn't stop him from enlisting certain Avengers and even the president of a TV network to pressure individuals into speaking out. Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, and Martin Sheen are just a few examples of the famous people pleading with you to cast your ballot. They also guarantee that if you do, Ruffalo will strip off in his upcoming film, even if he doesn't seem too excited about the prospect.
Lin-Manuel Miranda
The musical genius has been making a lot of effort to get young Latinos to go to the polls in November. While speaking at an event in Houston, Miranda openly displayed his support for Beto O'Rourke and Rochelle Garza, the Democratic candidate for attorney general. Miranda stated, "I'm here because I think Latinos can transform this country. We are obligated to look out for one another because we are each other's brothers and sisters. Before it is completed, everything looks impossible. In addition, Miranda went to an event in Atlanta, Georgia, in October to support Democratic U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock's bid for reelection.
Katy Perry gets naked
The singer has been a fervent supporter of Clinton; in addition to being at the DNC in July, she campaigned for her in Iowa. Perry does not express any political views in this Funny or Die advertisement, instead urging viewers to cast their ballots while wearing clothes.
Katy also was not shy to let her fans know who she chose to vote for in this year’s elections and took to Instagram to share of photo of her casting her vote for Rick Caruso. “I am voting for a myriad of reasons (see the news) but in particular because Los Angeles is a hot mess
The"As It Was" singer took the stage with his guitar at a sold-out Austin performance that O'Rourke saw. Styles then started to gently move the instrument back and forth while it was broadcast on the large screens of the Moody Center. The camera focuses on a black-and-white sticker that reads "Beto for Texas" as it pans in on the guitar. Styles drew circles with his fingers all over the label to attract attention to it.
There were many celebrities that campaigned to go vote and some campaigned for who to vote for. With the world how it is today, it is vital for candidates to get celebrities to endorse them due to their large following and social media influence on the younger generation. It is a good outreach to encourage to vote and make their voice heard.
